A shirt design for a friend. See if you can figure out what is going on. If you can’t, you will have to get my friend to explain it to you….

Knight Walk

by admin on Aug.12, 2010, under Misc

Our school is having a Walk-A-Thon. We are the Knights. So…it is going to be a Knight Walk. They needed a logo for a shirt, poster, etc. For some reason I immediately thought of a SB mimic. It makes a great shirt and is bold, bright and easy to use as a header, on a poster, etc.

Sweet 16 Invite

by admin on Aug.10, 2010, under Misc

My son was turning 16 and my wife asked me to design an invitation for his party. I wanted to do something that was auto related and yet not overly “car”. I also wanted a fairly high design element and a lot of contrast and pop. Once I decided to use a tire track it just made sense to go with black on one side and white on the other and make the only color a red “16″.

Book cover for my Dad

by admin on Jul.14, 2010, under Misc

My father is writing a book. That is pretty cool. He asked my to design the cover. That is really cool!

His book is about character in the workplace and he wanted to use an artificial horizon (he flew in F4’s in Vietnam as a Marine RIO). I found a photo that would work, but could not make things look right since photo realistic was just to much. So a little posterizing and some creative editing and I had an image I liked. The rest was just fitting the parts together.

CCS Knights BBall Homecoming

by admin on Dec.28, 2009, under Misc

Back to school again. Time for Varsity Basketball Homecoming, so they asked me to design a shirt.

Tried to capture the NIKE baller feel. Something the kids would think was cool. At least my 15 yr old liked it!

Portable Shelters Logo

by admin on Dec.28, 2009, under Misc

My best friend’s parent’s company needed a brand update. He ask me to design a logo that would work on vehicles, embroidered on clothing items, and for stationary and such.

When I ask what he was looking for he replied:

“They have a great reputation. Lots of trust built up over the years in a) the quality of what they produce and b) the integrity of their dealings with people. They’ve also been doing this for 25 years, and my mom’s dad had a version of this business for 30+ years before this.

So I want something that communicates strength, consistency, and dependability. It also needs to fit in the ‘good ol’ boy’ world. This is the land of International Harvester and International Paper, not international espionage. Hay bales, not Christian Bale.

Something clean that can be used as a site header and a logo.”

In further talks I also learned that they drive red trucks. So I was looking for a way to represent the idea of modular spaces, portability and expandability and give it a strong, consistent and dependable feel. I went with a modified square as a foundational icon, a cornerstone if you will, and then filled it with smaller squares to denote independent sub division and parts. The good news is, they liked it.

A Night for Knights

by admin on Dec.17, 2009, under Misc

I do the design work for the Annual Auction and Dinner for our school, Crossings Christian School. This year they ask me to make the design a little quirky and fun. Our colors are Red, Black and White. I went with the dramatic black background and used the diamond because we are going to be auctioning off a diamond. Once I put the diamond on the black i decided it needed to be spot lit and then the rest kind of fell into place.

I did the poster/ad first and then worked up a ’save the date’ card.

OKC Turkey Trot Shirt

by admin on Nov.11, 2009, under Misc

The design of the Oklahoma City Turkey Trot T-Shirt. Obvious rip-off of the “got milk?” campaign.

I wanted to get something fall or turkey into the design, so I posterized some feathers and weaved them into the text.

Fox 25 (the race media sponsor) liked the idea and tied it into their spot:

runHers San Antonio Rock & Rock Marathon Shirt

by admin on Nov.06, 2009, under Misc

The local chapter of runHers liked the “runHers for the Cure” shirt so they came back and ask about a design for their trip to run the San Antonio Rock & Roll Marathon. They wanted to promote the runHers identity and also play off the rock & roll theme.

I decided to make the participants rock stars and have the shirt design be a signed guitar. The front logo incorporates the runHers logo into musical notes and identifies the race, location and date.
