You’ve all seen them, designs and messages drawn on fences using styrofoam or plastic cups. Of course, this lends itself to the T3Design logo too! I started by creating a mockup of the pattern of cups in a diagonal grid to resemble the fencing.
We found a fence that was black and had a well site in the background (happens to be the fence surrounding the new football field at our school, so I had legal access too!) I had ordered 400 orange and 200 white 12oz plastic cups so we were set. The cups came in on Monday, but we couldn’t get out to the site until Tuesday night. We backed the car up to the fence and after a little counting to center the design, we started sticking cups in the fence. That’s when we realized we had a slight problem: the cups were too big to be placed in all the holes. Basically 4 cups placed in a square eclipsed the hole diagonally in the middle. So we had to adjust the design on the fly by not placing the cups on each alternate row.
This produced a grid pattern and slightly more granular design. All in all though it worked!
